Broken in a box on the street, there it lay. The book that provided the basis for OtGO's series of paintings entitled 1885 OtGO Monkey 2022. OtGO had the idea of giving an old book new life through his painting since a long time. However, it was more difficult than expected to get a suitable copy. In an antiquarian bookshop it may be easy to buy an old book for little money. But then taking it apart, ripping out pages and thus destroying it in a way that OtGO never had the heart to do.

So there it was: a book from 1885 that someone had thrown away. The individual pages were already loose, the spine of the book was broken. The book bears the name "Small painting of the world" and tells of the emergence of this and of important inventions. In addition to the text in old German script, there are also black and white drawings of the various themes.

OtGO selected a total of 110 loose pages to use for his project. The imprint of his right hand can now be seen in bright blue on each sheet. He himself says: "I have a very special relationship with the leaves, because my handprint makes it very personal." On the one hand, the imprint is a kind of document from OtGO, on the other hand it also stands for his soul, which he thus gives to the old paper so that it continues to live on. Furthermore, one or two monkeys are painted on each page, which we already know from other paintings. OtGO was born in the year of the monkey and so he adds another part of himself to the pictures. The pages now tell new stories and travel to pass them on. OtGO has revived the old book, making it immortal.
